Welcome to Day One at Ballindenisk, where a sunny morning got us off to a great start!
Today saw dressage for the CCI classes and some of the CIC3* class.
First in to the arenas this morning were Ballindenisk regulars Sam Watson and Oliver Townend... and we were off!
As we broke for lunch, Patricia Ryan was leading the CCI3* class on an impressive 42.7 (Tullineaskey Hi Ho) and Vittoria Panizzon (ITA) was leading the CCI2* on 41.6, with Chequers Play the Game.
A downpour hit just before the re-start, so the first few riders after lunch got a soaking in the warm up arena. The rain kindly stopped before they did their tests and given that it’s Ireland in September, we’re sure they all had a change of clothes close by!
The CCI2* class was first to finish today and Great Britain’s Izzy Taylor did a super test with Be Touchable (39.8), which puts her in the lead overnight. Vittoria Panizzon (ITA) is in 2nd with Chequers Play the Game and Blyth Tait (GBR) lies 3rd, on 43.2, with Daruis IV.
No one could do better than Patricia Ryan this afternoon so she holds onto the top spot in the CCI3* overnight. Oliver Townend will be hot on her heels (twice!) cross country, as he finished today in 2nd with Cooley SRS (44.3) and 3rd with MHS King Joules (44.7).
Stephanie D’Andrimont (BEL) had a great first day of competition with Daisy to take the overnight lead in the CCI1* class (39.6). Sarah Ennis lies 2nd overnight for Ireland, on 43.8 (Woodland Garrison) and Matthew Wright takes the 3rd spot (44.8), with Rakam D’Emra.
13 of our CIC3* competitors faced the dressage judges today, with the remaining 25 due to take to the field in the morning. They’ll all the trying to do better than Elizabeth Halliday-Sharp, whose lovely test today puts her in the top spot overnight, on a score of 37.6, with HSS Cooley.
There will be lots more dressage tomorrow and we’ll also see the first of our competitors tackle the coloured poles.... roll on day two!
