Saturday – XC Day
We’ve had a fantastic day of action here and a huge thank you goes out to the army of people who made it possible (including the actual army, who were minding their guns...literally... at the Army camp fence)!
Two classes finished their Ballindenisk adventures today so the final results are in and the rosettes have been presented in the CIC1* and Michael Leonard Memorial Championship. Yesterday’s CIC1* leaders, Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp (USA) and Deniro Z had a stop cross country but Elisabeth’s second horse, Oskar, had a faultless round so he moved up the top of the leaderboard to take the red rosette on a score of 42.1. Stephanie d’Andrimont (BEL) and Captain Van de Kapel also went clear to move up to 2nd (44.0) and Ireland’s Camilla Speirs took the 3rd spot, finishing on 51.5, with Loughnavatta Cedar.
In the Michael Leonard Memorial Championship, perfect scores cross country left the leaderboard unchanged. Our worthy winner, Jessica O’Driscoll (Clooney MS - 33.6) was the only competitor to finish on her dressage score! 2nd place went to Ciara Power and Stonehavens Poynstown (34.0) and Jodie O’Keefe finished 3rd with Reenmore Duke (35.1). Congratulations to all of you and we hope to see you back in Ballindenisk in the Spring!
The remaining classes will showjump tomorrow so here’s the update on those!
CIC3*
A clear round within the time for Mark Todd and NZB Campino have moved them into the top spot (36.6) while a few time penalties today moved Emily King down into 2nd (38.8) with Brookleigh. There are less than 4 penalties between these two so Mark can’t afford to knock a pole tomorrow if he wants to take the red rosette home. Nicky Roncoroni and Watts Burn lie 3rd overnight on 50.1, having moved up from 7th place today.
CIC2*
Less than a pole separate the top two in this class tomorrow too! Cathal Daniels had a lovely clear round inside the time today to take the overnight lead, on 45.3, with Sammy Davis Junior. Clare Abbott and Euro Prince held onto 2nd place, finishing on 47.1 and Lucy Latta’s clear round (Cleo Ferro) keeps her on 49.7 and moves her up to 3rd place heading for the coloured poles tomorrow.
CCI3*
Ireland, Great Britain and Belgium will battle it out for the honours here tomorrow... Ireland’s Patricia Ryan led from the outset and wasn’t giving up the top spot to anyone today! She can’t afford any mistakes tomorrow though, when Tullineaskey Hi Ho (43.5) makes his appearance in the arena, as Oliver Townend (Cooley SRS – 44.3) and Stephanie D’Andrimont (Alexander IV – 47.0) are very close behind her in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
CCI2*
Our top 3 overnight here had perfect rounds today! Great Britain’s Izzy Taylor and Be Touchable (39.8) maintained their lead from yesterday and Blyth Tait moved up a place to lie 2nd tonight on 43.2, with Darius IV. With less than a pole between them, Izzy will have to hold her nerve! Great Britain’s Matthew Wright is not too far behind on 45.1, with Shannondale Shinawil, so we’re sure he’ll be watching closely.
CCI1*
Three British riders are leading this class heading into our final day. Matthew Wright takes the lead overnight with Rakam D’Emra (58.8), while
Helen West is on 61.4, with Eebay (we’re sure you didn’t buy him there!) Olivia Leyland and Krakatau are on 69.3 and in 3rd place overnight. Best of the Irish is Louise Bloomer, who ’s on 70.6 and lying 5th overnight, with Hollybrook Star.
We wish all tomorrow’s competitors the very best of luck and it’s going to be very exciting, so do come down and join us!
